CHIROPRACTIC
It is the third largest therapeutic science in the world after Medicine and Dentistry. It is related to the investigation, prevention, and treatment of pain syndromes and mechanical dysfunctions of the neuromusculoskeletal system, especially of the spinal column, but also of the limbs, and the effects these have on the nervous system and overall health...
EXPLANATION OF DYSFUNCTION
Any kind of restriction in spinal movement a restriction that may result from trauma, incorrect walking posture, poor sitting posture, repetitive lifting movements, leg length discrepancy, and many other causes accelerates the wear and tear of intervertebral discs and leads to the formation of herniated discs. This results in instability and weakness of the spinal column and the presence of so - called osteophytes or “bone spurs”. The final outcome is that these osteophytes and herniated discs narrow the space through which the nerves exit, "blocking" them in a way that causes pressure and irritation. In some cases, this pressure may even affect the spinal cord. Thus, continuous irritation creates ongoing inflammation and corresponding muscle spasms. In chiropractic science, this entire pathological and dysfunctional condition of a complex of two or more vertebrae is called subluxation.
VERTEBRAL SUBLUXATION
The misalignment of the vertebra causes a reduction in the range of motion, resulting in pressure being applied to the intervertebral disc, spinal nerves, and in some cases, to the spinal canal, at the level where the subluxation has occurred.
METHOD OF CHIROPRACTIC THERAPEUTIC INTERVENTION
Chiropractic identifies subluxations and then, using appropriate and fully specialized therapeutic techniques called spinal adjustments, restores the correct path and freedom of movement to the vertebrae, thereby releasing the nerve and relaxing the muscles, achieving proper function of the nervous and musculoskeletal system. More specifically, a highly precise procedure of dysfunction analysis is followed, unique to each patient, where through X - ray imaging the exact position of the vertebra in three - dimensional space is discovered that is, its position on the X, Y, Z axes. In combination with specialized static and dynamic palpation, the analysis of MRI or CT scans, and other orthopedic and neurological evaluations, the doctor of chiropractic determines the depth, speed, angle, and direction of the corrective motion and repositioning of the misaligned vertebra.
